As a student, it is absolutely normal for us to feel some kind of pressure. In my opinion, peer pressure is a major kind of pressure, and it is usually caused by competitions between students.
For human beings, the need of competing is essential in our daily life. By competing with others, you can see the spots which still needs improvement, thereby can be a motivation to reach a goal. For students, the things we are competing are usually grades or personalities, and the feeling that “somebody else is better than you” is not that comfortable. Therefore, students will work hard and try to be better than someone else on some exams or other events.
For me, I deeply felt peer pressure when a test is coming. I might worry whether I will be able to have a better grade than my classmates. Not only was I thinking that way near exams, but most students all felt that kind of pressure. That’s also one of the reasons why students are so nervous and hectic before an exam.
Peer pressure might be a good thing since it allowed us to work harder and set goals for ourselves. However, too much peer pressure can also be negative on a student. If the student fails to compete over other students, he might feel depressed or unhappy because of this. So what we should do as a student, is to try to balance the two sides of peer pressure, have goals and work hard but don’t the pressure affect your mood.
